New Committee

Our July 3rd meeting was poorly attended, perhaps because we gave a warning we would ask for new committee members! Since no-one offered to take over from Lee Smith as chair (he is taking a new job in Mind) he agreed to hang on for the present. Offers still welcome!

Tony Heyes
of the O'Hara Charitable Trust will fill the gap as acting treasurer until a new one can be found.

David Marsden of Redford Studios will be editor for the next Newsletter (see separate panel)

Margaret Smith of Work Rehab (West London MH NHS Trust) is a new member of the committee and agreed to organise our next event on Nov 10th (see panel on right)

"Life after Rehab" Conference

This event is being planned by Margaret Smith of Work Rehab who would be delighted to receive offers to speak. This can be for five minutes or longer. We hope to cover topics such as the success our members are having with placement in open employment and the good practice they are developing here. Experiences will also be useful on those industry sectors which are "safe" (or not!) for vulnerable people able to return work. And on job retention for people in work but worried about it. How do you assess whether people are ready for a return to work?

People who cannot offer a talk are still encouraged to send in any documented good practices or experiences. These will be disseminated through our newsletter or our web site. Please email documents to Tony Heyes at mhen@ontheside.org
or post to Findon House 110 Ellis Road Crowthorne Berks rg45 6ph

For our next newsletter

David Marsden is our next Editor, and suggests the following topics to get you thinking. Please send us material of any length on these or any other topics.

  • Putting the fun into funding?
  • Wanted! Effective and cost-efficient recruitment strategies
  • Employers - what works and what doesn't?
  • Partnerships - how to get started, who to link up with?
  • Research and reports - evidence of local needs, activities and achievements
  • Dreams and wishes...

David suggests that people can send in stuff they have already written for their project reports, newsletters, annual reports, funding applications, press releases, publicity material, service descriptions, adverts, pictures, photos, cartoons, logos, research etc.

Or, of course, people can write something new.
