Elections are the heart of party work. There are local elections every year in the Borough and District and when not fighting our own elections branches support our candidates in other wards or other constituencies via our Regional office.
We always need workers to help us with policy matters, local issues and the large task of leaflet and newsletter distribution, and of course with our committee tasks. Do come to our social events at least. Even if you don't have time to work with us on the election and policy areas, you will have some fun, learn about us and contribute to our funds! Our branch meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month (except August and December) are considered to be in part social events. We serve refreshments and often have fun. Our branch already numbers 124 members but we are keen to have many more. Obviously we hope some of our new members will join in order to train as councillors or to represent the party as School Governors. |
Members can contribute to Party policy in several ways: by attending Constituency party meetings, by attending our branch meetings, by attending the occasional policy forums aimed in inputting to the National Policy Forums in response to their consultation documents, or by emailing comments and contributions to us, or to our policy newsletter (The Labour Challenge)
Success begins with local issues, Policy is therefore not just for the National Party or the constituency committees to devise. You might be solidly focussed on a controversial local campaign, Perhaps you could help to strengthening national party policy, or even speak against it constructively. Maybe you just want to find out more about the policies and have your views listened to? Or you could explain our policies to schools and other voluntary or statutory bodies you already work with, and bring back their views to us. There is a role for everyone in policy formation and dissemination. |
