DESCRIPTION Byker Bridge aims to provide permanent or long term supportive accommodation in shared housing to single homeless, isolated and vunerable men/women over 18years, with opportunities for occupation and life skills training in safe/sheltered environments.
SERVICES Resources include a direct access hostel, therapeutic workshop, a day centre and the Joseph Cowen Medical Centre, in addition to shared houses and flats.

DESCRIPTION We exist to work, jointly with statutory bodies, to improve services for people with mental health problems.We seek to help service users become empowered, help with advocacy for service users, sit on joint planning groups, joint training boards etc.
SERVICES We provide empowerment and advocacy courses and have an annual open day.We have held a series of lectures to Housing Service personnel, to raise the awareness of housing officials of the problems encountered by people with mental health problems, and regularly give lectures to CPN students as part of their training.

DESCRIPTION MHIST is a voluntary group which exists to support those coping with mental ill health, those recovering and those who care.
SERVICES Our Dro-in opens five days a week 10am -4pm. We also open weekends- 12-4pm and Mon & Sat evenings for ''club'' bingo sessions. Cooked lunches are available every day apart from Sunday.Timetabled activities and constructive pursuitrs are available on a rolling programme, ranging from alternative medicines to adventure weekends. There is a separate mens group and womens group meetings once a week, and a caring for carers group on alternative Tuesday nights.and other like minded organisations. These will run alongside but separately from the "Drop-in".

DESCRIPTION Aims to improve the provision of services to women whose lives are made difficult by problems around food, eating or body size (eg anorexia, bulimia, complulsive or binge eating). We provide groups and access to counselling,where women can gain an understanding of their behaviour. We provide telephone information and support to men, children and young people, as well as to carers.
SERVICES Telephone listening and information service; single consultations to discuss sources of help and support; therapeutic groupwork for women over 18 years; training to professionals and community groups.

DESCRIPTION A voluntary group, set up about five years ago at the Denis Johnston Centre in South Shields, to promote the interests of the mentally ill.It is open to anyone with similar problems and exists to increase understanding of mental illness and how to cope with it. It is supported by Social Services and funded with money from the Mental Illness Specific Grant.
SERVICES Weekly meetings at above address on Friday mornings, 10am - noon (bus fares refunded);sometimes, attendance at training sessions or seminars run for social workers; occasional days out and night out at Christmas.

DESCRIPTION We are an independent group, called Together Sunderland Mental Health Service Users and Carers Group.Our members are drawn from all mental illness and we are the only group in Sunderland where users and carers are involved. We raise our own funds.
SERVICES A self-help group, helping and supporting each other but mainly learning from each other. We use the vast knowledge and expertise of our members.We participate in the consultative process with the statutory bodies. We have also produced information booklets and leaflets.
